Hillside slips showing significant damage post Cyclone Gabrielle.
NewsHub recently published an article highlighting how a RIEGL VUX-240 Sensor was utilized to map and model the effects of Cyclone Gabrielle on Green Hawkes Bay, New Zealand. It is estimated that this cyclone dumped 20 million tons or silt and sand in addition to creating about 300,000 landslides. This massive amount of shifted debris poses a threat to floodplains in particular riverbeds in the area.
Learn how the RIEGL VUX-240 integrated in the RIEGL VP-1 Helicopter Pod is capturing detailed 3D information about the terrain and vegetation in the affected area. The data captured was used to create flood hazard simulation models and by overlaying it with data from 2020 the difference in river valley levels is shown in 4D models.

The blue parts of the 4D map show where the floor is much higher, in some places the silt is six meters deep.
