The American Surveyor recently published an article highlighting a RIEGL miniVUX sensor being utilized by Environmental Engineers to analyze a river that was encroaching upon a local campsite in Big Sur, California. The river in question has moved almost 250ft from its original location due to a series of heavier winters in the area and the erosion is causing problems for the local campsite. The plan was to evaluate where the river had been and where it is tracking to go in order to prevent further impact to this cherished local getaway location.
Learn how the RIEGL miniVUX fitted to a drone was able to create a precise digital terrain model and easily identify the old river channels and the small drainage swales within the area.
