RIEGL RiCAST: From Mountain Glaciers to Powerline Corridors, an Interview with Ron Chapple, CEO of GEO1

Ron Chapple, CEO of GEO1

In today’s RiCAST, Michael Sitar, Executive Management Consultant, checks in with Ron Chapple, CEO of Geo 1. Years ago, Chapple’s Southern California-based firm received a client request for a high-resolution video of an electrical transmission circuit. When planning the shoot, his team made the decision to add aerial LiDAR scans collected with RIEGL equipment to their traditional video tools, giving them a product that included the element of 3D. Since then GEO1 has never looked back and is using LiDAR on project after project around the globe!

This discussion with Michael and Ron reveals Chapple’s inspirations to venture into the LiDAR industry, establishing Geo 1, and discuss some exciting international projects their team has worked on. Ron’s team utilizes a custom integration with a set of RIEGL VUX-1LR scanners as well as the VQ-480 II for several applications such as city modeling and corridor mapping. Listen to this informative interview between Michael and Ron as they go into further detail regarding these projects; including work with the National Geographic Society acquiring high resolution scans of mountainous terrain for research initiatives.
