LiDAR and GIS Grow Closer Together

LiDAR Magazine recently published an interview with Ron Behrendt, Managing Director of Behron LLC, a geospatial consultancy. In this interview he discusses the RIEGL RiMAP software that is currently under development that will smooth the data flow and improve the efficiency of transferring LiDAR point clouds and associated imagery from RIEGL’s systems into Esri’s ArcGIS Platform.

LiDAR is a remote sensing method that uses a laser to measure various elevations such as the ground, forest, and buildings. LiDAR is a major source of geographic information containing highly accurate information and as such, is an incredible tool.  However, its voluminous data sets and their characteristics have historically made it challenging to ingest into GIS and thereby making it less accessible to GIS users.

The interview that LiDAR Magazine conducted with Ron Behrendt highlights and goes further in depth on how a new plug-in module for Esri’s ArcGIS Pro desktop GIS will make this process simpler and the combination of LiDAR and GIS more effective.
